Concept Design: Wakrah Bypass Artscape (WBA), Qatar
An artscape commission for the Wakrah Bypass to the south of Doha, developed with Makower Architects for Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and Ashghal (2016).
In the design, large-scale sculptures of camels will be positioned at key points along the legth of the 11kms bypass, to be viewed in motion. The seemingly solid forms glimpsed on the horizon will fragment into separate sections as the driver passes, playing with notions of figuration, abstraction and perception.

The motif of the camel references the historic form of travel used along the former trade routes. Placed within the new context of the modern highway, the image highlights the stark contrasts resulting from the kind of rapid modernization and urban development that the country is experiencing today- past within present.
